Protect pictureThe effectation of silica nanoparticles regarding fuel split properties of ethylene plastic acetate (EVA) copolymer containing 28per cent plastic acetate is examined. The EVA and crossbreed EVA–silica membranes were ready via thermal phase inversion strategy. Silica nanoparticles prepared by hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), through sol–gel device. The prepared membranes had been characterized using FT-IR, SEM, DSC and XRD techniques. FT-IR and SEM results suggested the nanoscale dispersion of silica particles in polymer matrix. As confirmed by XRD and DSC analyses, enhancing the silica content enhances the amorphous regions significantly. Gas permeation of EVA–silica nanocomposite membranes with silica articles of 5, 6 and 10 wt.percent was examined for N2, O2, CO2 and CH4 single gases at pressures of 4, 6 and 8 bar. The received results advise a significant rise in permeability of fumes and an increase in CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 fumes selectivities upon increasing the silica content. The feasible reasons for such behavior had been claimed and discussed. The pressure reliance for the fuel permeabilities of the membranes has also been investigated.
